Kinesiology is a method of aligning body and mind for health and happiness using muscle testing to find the root causes of an individual's ill health. It has its roots in practices of manual muscle testing that emerged in the early 20th century with a Boston-based orthopedic surgeon called Robert W. Lovett.

Lovett was a pioneer who used this early form of muscle testing to gauge the level of disabilities in the case of nerve damage and polio.

In 1949, follow-up work on Lovett's testing was published by Kendall and Kendall, and it was this work that caught the attention of a Detroit Chiropractor called Dr. Goodheart in the early 1960s. Dr. Goodheart found that by testing and correcting the muscles of his clients he was able to support a deeper level of healing not available solely with chiropractice—apart from structural relief. By balancing certain muscles, he found that particular organ disturbances would go away. In so doing, he was able to link muscle tests with Chinese medicine and Chiropractic techniques, and called this burgeoning practice Applied Kinesiology.

In the early 1970s, Dr. John Thie D.C.—a student of Dr. Goodheart's—developed Touch for Health. Dr Thie's breakthrough was to recognise that muscles would change their integrity when under different stress stimuli. Using this understanding, he developed a system that traced muscular symptoms back to their root causes of energy blockage and dysfunction—in lifestyle, outlook and activities. Touch for Health opened up Applied Kinesiology to the general public, from which it has evolved to form the contemporary modality of health known simply as Kinesiology.

The main type of kinesiology practiced at Bayside Kinesiology is HOW TO: Kinesiology? & Kinergetics, they are dynamic and holistic approaches which recognises that no two people are the same, and aims to bring your body back into balance giving you greater understanding and leaving you feeling more in harmony with your environment.
Kinesiology is not a test of muscle strength, is not invasive, and does not require machines or complex diagnostic tools. It is an enlivening and enriching practice that helps us to understand ourselves and others, and often gives immediate answers to deep or unanswered and difficult questions.

HISTORY OF HOW TO: Kinesiology?

Ranee Zeller developed HOW TO: Kinesiology? in 2015 as a modality for the office or the park, enabling people from all walks of life to apply kinesiology immediately.
Ranee Zeller has been involved in teaching and practising kinesiology since 1996.
HOW TO: Kinesiology? is comprehensive yet succinct and doesn’t require a clinic or massage table. All manuals are available in paper and electronic versions for convenience. HOW TO: Kinesiology? is a powerful modality that addresses physical, mental, emotional, nutritional and spiritual imbalances.

HOW TO: Kinesiology addresses:

  • Kinesiology for Alergies
  • Kinesiology for Relationships and Love
  • Kinesiology for Enhanced Learning
  • Kinesiology for Weight Loss
  • Kinesiology for Pain Management
  • Kinesiology for Spiritual Development
  • Kinesiology for Abundance and Business management
  • Meridians Made Easy
  • Face Reading

All types of stress (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and nutritional) cause breakdowns in the body’s already busy contours of communication.

When there is a disconnection, the body will adapt, but will also become less efficient.  The parts forget how to work as a team and start segmenting themselves.

A symptom is the last stage of imbalance - the body is calling out for assistance – it needs to be understood.

In ‘HOW TO: Kinesiology?’ a therapist asks questions of the client’s body address priority issues and imbalances.  A kinesiology technique is used to help the body balance and restore communication. Clients remain fully clothed during treatment and muscle testing is painless. ‘HOW TO: Kinesiology?’  helps us ask specific questions. The result is greater knowledge, awareness and health-giving life force.

‘HOW TO: Kinesiology?’  asks which part needs improved communication and harmony throughout the body. The body is designed to heal and grow, this happens when the body remains connected and communication pathways are able to work as a team.

Once the body has been reminded of the issue, it can initiate its own healing process.  Your body knows how to heal itself. It just needs to be reminded how.

Your body is designed to heal itself.  When all the parts and systems of the body communicate with each other, healing happens naturally.  However, stress can cause communication breakdowns, resulting in discomfort and disease.  ‘HOW TO: Kinesiology?’ identifies these breakdowns and asks the body for the priority and how it needs to heal in order to restore communication between all levels of the body.

Muscle testing is an integral part of kinesiological practice, and the first step in identifying imbalances and blockages in the body. It's used to access information from the body, and can show whether the body has an energy sensitivity to a particular substance, or whether a particular event, statement or memory is stressful, or if the body is dehydrated as well as many other issues. It is really a form of communication with the body, and a form of biofeedback between therapist and client. It is not a test of muscle strength.

Once the root cause of a symptom found through muscle testing is identified, it's a matter of applying a correction in the form of healing energy to correct the blockage or imbalance. Some problems are quick and easy to resolve. Depending on the number of layers to the issue and the severity, others may take a while longer. Once the problem has been resolved the correction has the potential to last forever,  others last for years but some may require regular short top-ups. Sometimes the blockage or imbalance is very deeply rooted—particularly when it is located in an individual's psyche—and may have accumulated over the course of years. Every time we experience a stressful situation, our brains open up a 'file' in which to store the experience. This file can be located anywhere in a person's body or the body's energy field. When faced with similar situations, the body dumps more information in the file until eventually it overloads, resulting in ill health, pain or suffering. The bigger the stress, the bigger the 'download' and the resulting energy blockage.

Kinesiology quickly and easily breaks down the 'file' and re-establishes the natural harmony of mind and body.
